Why I quit my job at age 25… Keep reading ↡ I quit my job 3 years ago at a magazine publication to pursue a career in a predominantly male-hired industry and I would do it again. Being a female photographer working in the outdoor, editorial and wedding industries has been challenging, but also extremely rewarding. Making a name for yourself is not easy in such a competitive business. In fact, it’s so difficult that most people never even try to go full time with it. Just a couple of decades ago, you didn’t see nearly as many women working professionally in this industry, which is why I’m so proud of myself and other females who are navigating their own photography businesses as well. I see all of you and am inspired to keep growing my business and pushing past the norm of what people consider a successful career. I’ve had opportunities to work with companies that younger me dreamed about partnering with and have been lucky to make friends with so many amazing creatives over the years. So, this is your sign — if you’re wanting to pursue something that others might doubt or that might scare you to take the leap for, do it. Quitting my job to work full time for myself is the best decision I made in my career. Did everyone in my life question my sanity? Yes. But was it worth it? 1000%.
