4 things you should know about Chemical Peels! 🧪✨ 1. How to prep for a Chemical Peel Discontinue the use of any exfoliants and prescription topical medications (like tretinoin) at least 7 days prior to getting a chemical peel. 2. Different types of Chemical Peels Chemical peels come in different strengths. There’s superficial peels that target the skin’s outermost layer and have little to no downtime. Medium chemical peels which is what I’m doing on my client today— which penetrate deeper, causing some peeling, and requires a few days for the skin to recover. And then we have deep chemical peels which make your skin shed like a snake but provide dramatic results. 3. You might not peel as expected The amount of visible peeling doesn’t always indicate effectiveness. Even if you don’t see much peeling, the treatment is still working on a cellular level. Visible peeling varies from person to person and depends on the kind of peel that is done. If you frequently exfoliate with chemical exfoliants you also might not peel too dramatically because your skin is already accustomed to exfoliation. 4. Post-Peel care is crucial After getting a chemical peel, be sure to avoid sun exposure and always wear SPF. I recommend wearing at least SPF 30 and reapplying throughout the day when needed. Keep your skin care routine simple and gentle. Avoid chemical exfoliants, _prescription topical medication, heavy sweating, hot showers, and makeup for at least 7 days after. Don’t pick at peeling skin! It could lead to scarring and hyperpigmentation. @Shanti Skincare NYC Join the waitlist at www.shantiskincarenyc.com/waitlist 💚 #nycfacials #nycskincare #nycesthetician #nycchemicalpeels #chemicalpeel #chemicalpeels
