Yup I’m a mom of 2 girls ages 23 and 20. Married to my husband for 26+ years and loving empty nesting. But we all know those years in between are stressful! Raising kids, building businesses, paying the bills. LIFE! I get it!  Fitness and health have always been a priority for me, but going into perimenopause I needed to change how I was moving my body and what I was putting in my body. If there is one thing I want all women in midlife who are wanting true change to do this year, it’s adopt a LIFESTYLE. Not a quick fix. Can you see yourself doing this in a year? 2 years? The rest of your life?  That’s when I knew this was it for me because I fell in love with it! It’s why I am the fittest I have ever been in my entire life and maintaining it for the past 2+ years. Lifting, walking, nutrition, repeat! I love how I move and I love what I eat. If you don’t learn to fall in love with the lifestyle it won’t stick. It will require a mindset shift and willingness to embrace the discomfort of change. Eventually you will fall so in love with how you feel, you won’t look back. You get to midlife and perimenopause hits like a Mack truck. Pile this on top of years of prioritizing everything and everyone else, and you end up feeling frustrated and a little bit lost. Well now it’s YOUR time! It’s time to focus on you and become the absolute best version of yourself and blow your own mind in the process. Trust me when I tell you that when you do this, everyone else will benefit as well! But the biggest beneficiary is you!  You are the only one that will live in your mind and body for the rest of your life 24/7. Make it a good place to live! Set yourself up for success now or pay later and not in a good way. Will you need to probably set boundaries with your time and people? Absolutely! Worth it? Absolutely! Start now by implementing 3 to 4 days of resistance training per week, a daily walk even if it’s just 10 to 20 minutes, and setting a protein goal and hitting it! You can work your way up from there. This is a long game. This is not a quick fix. It takes months and years to build the physique that you want. And yes, you can do it in midlife! You will need to understand that you can’t hop around from work out to work out. You’ll be doing a lot of the same basic movements week in  and week out with a focus on getting stronger and progressing them over time.  If you commit to the daily habits, get your mindset right, I promise that you will fall in love with it and get addicted to the process. At first it be hard, then it will become effortless as it becomes your daily flow. As a woman who has been active my entire life, I remember feeling fully irritated about where I was as I approached 50. I knew it was possible to change my mindset and physique, but I needed to change what I was doing! I was just coming into empty nesting and scared/excited for this new chapter. I had spent 20+ years, pouring into family and business and always kept fitness a priority, but I was ready to take it up to the next level because I knew in my heart it was possible! I wanted to become the BEST version of me at 50! I needed to change what I was doing and fully commit to the process. It was so incredibly simple it’s silly! Progressive overload strength training, walking, and dialed in nutrition! I had also come off of a super high stress time and I know this affected so many things as well. I started getting my hormones checked every six months and worked closely with my functional medicine doctor to keep a close eye on what was going on with my body as I’m going through perimenopause/menopause. By the time I turned 50 I was feeling like an absolute unit and committed to continue going and make this the best decade yet. At age 51 (this July) I started bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for menopause symptoms and I feel amazing! Lifestyle changes plus keeping a close eye on your health and hormones at this stage in life is crucial! I am proof that you can make big changes going into your second half of life and that it’s never too late! You have to be your own biggest advocate, and you have to kick your own a$$ most days! You have to believe it’s possible and speak power over yourself even if you don’t believe it yet. You’ll need to get gritty and uncomfortable, but that’s where the magic always happens! Love you big!
