when I had kids it was second nature to get curious about the inner workings of their brain and nervous system before believing something was inherently bad about or wrong with them because of behaviors or feelings that made me uncomfy bc they were shamed-out. not only was it easy for me to see myself in their behaviors- I also simply believed them to be inherently good. i find it chilling that previous generations parents ever saw it otherwise. but- that’s a conversation for a different day- how conservative christian ideas of a human’s “sin nature” permeated into our beliefs about children and how best to parent them. (rage, separation, shame, and silencing- literally wtf?) as someone whose chronic shame made me nearly kill myself with substances ten years ago- I can personally say that Dr. Dobson and the idea of children being born flawed and in need of saving to become, can blow me. vigorously. children are our greatest teachers and they are GOOD…. they need accommodations and our dedication to meet them where they are and come alongside them- not attempts to mold and silence them into the kind of emotionally stunted immature adults we’re all trying to heal from. 👀 glad we’re undoing this. #audhd #asd #latediagnosed #audhdmom #mollified #molliemycelium #parenting #neurodivergent #pathologicaldemandavoidance #highmaskingautism #MentalHealth #motherhood #nurturing
