In another sign of the times for legacy retail, Macy’s on Thursday announced the closure of 66 stores nationwide, including four Pennsylvania locations. The company said the closures are part of its ongoing plan to shutter 150 underperforming stores by 2026. The Pennsylvania closures include Macy’s stores at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona, the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre, and the iconic Center City Philadelphia location in the famous Wanamaker Building near Philadelphia City Hall. The Center City Macy’s opened in 2006 in the 12-story building that was constructed between 1902 and 1910. The building occupies an entire block of Market Street and is home to the Wanamaker Organ, which is believed to be the largest working organ in the world with 28,000 pipes. The famous organ has played a big part in the annual holiday music and light show in the building, which featured holiday characters like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, along with an animatronic display based on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” The stores are set to close sometime in March. ✏️ : @patrickdberkery 📸 : @apnews #Philly #Philadelphia #Macys #Retail #Pennsylvania #PhillyNews #PhiladelphiaNews #NewsUpdate #Pennsylvanian #Pennsylvanialife

President Donald Trump has pardoned, commuted the prison sentences or vowed to dismiss the cases of all of the 1,500-plus people charged with crimes in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, including Zachary Rehl, the former leader of the Philadelphia chapter of the Proud Boys, Rehl was serving a 15-year term, one of the longest sentences handed down in connection with the attack. He was seen on video spraying a chemical irritant at law enforcement officers outside the Capitol on Jan. 6. Rehl also led at least three other men into the Capitol and into a senator’s office, where he smoked and posed for pictures while flashing the Proud Boys’ hand gesture, prosecutors said in court documents. At his sentencing in 2023, Rehl sobbed as he told the judge he deeply regretted being at the Capitol that day. “I’m done with all of it, done peddling lies for other people who don’t care about me,” Rehl said. “Politicians started spreading lies about the election, and I fell for it hook, line and sinker.” Click the link in our bio for the full story. ✏️ : @patrickdberkery / @apnews 📸 : @apnews #Philly #Philadelphia #Jan6 #January6th #TrumpPardons #USPolitics #CapitolRiot #Jan6riot #PhiladelphiaNews #PhillyNews #PhiladelphiaPolitics
