Preserving Celery! Tips for freezing: for the best texture freeze only the stalks and freeze on a sheet pan before transferring to freezer bags. @stasherbag Dehydrating: Dehydrate for 10-12 hours on your veggie setting (125°) until crunchy. If using a traditional oven use your lowest setting, stir often, until crunchy. (You might need to take the leaves out early so they don’t burn) Celery Salt: Mix 1/4 cup dried celery (leaves or pulverized stems) and 1 cup salt. Mix well. #celery #celeryjuicebenefits #healthyeating #foodpreservation #preserving #salt #urbanhomestead #canning #slowliving #zerowaste #lowwaste #lowwasteliving #denver

Extend coffee’s shelf life to 1-2 years by vacuum sealing & freezing whole beans! Oxygen is coffee’s biggest enemy, causing it to lose flavor and aroma over time. Vacuum sealing locks out air and freezing slows oxidation, keeping your beans fresh and flavorful. Why whole beans? Ground coffee has more surface area exposed to air, meaning it loses quality much faster—even in the freezer. Whole beans retain their natural oils and rich flavors longer, giving you a fresher, better-tasting brew when you grind them right before brewing. This simple method is perfect for homesteaders, coffee enthusiasts, or anyone stocking up for rising coffee prices & potential shortages. With proper storage, you’ll never have to settle for stale coffee again. #foodpreservation #coffee #prepping #preserving
HERE’S THE STORY 👇🏼 I legit got multiple comments the other day (not on this app) on why did we have to store so much food? They were so annoyed with me. 🤔And it got me thinking…. First, why do they care what I do? But second, why do we store this food? Why do we take the time to grow and preserve it and rotate through it and repeat the process year after year? And the answer is simple. ☺️ 1️⃣. So we can enjoy our hard work from the garden throughout the winter season. 2️⃣. It tastes better than canned store bought food. 3️⃣. We want to prepare ourselves and be able to provide and feed our family during times of need. I also hope that we never have to use it in a real emergency!! 🙏🏼 But the comfort that it gives me knowing I can feed my young children and they don’t have to go hungry is HUGE! 😮‍💨 And because we choose to preserve food means we can rely LESS on the grocery store. So, if the time comes that food isn’t as accessible, then guess what! You have the food you need at the store and it’s less competition. 💁🏻‍♀️ You’re welcome! I’ve never thought of preserving food as crazy or weird, but have you ever got comments like these before? What’s your main reason for preserving food?! • • • #homesteaders #selfreliant #modernhomesteaders #selfsufficient #preserving #growyourownfood #growyourownfood #emergencypreparedness #homesteading
Here’s how I did it & why 👇🏼 I bought a flat of 60 eggs and cracked them into the blender and blended them up. Put the trays into the freeze dryer and poured my scrambled egg mixture in. Then I let the freeze dryer work its magic. Its magic is removing all the water from the food while also preserving the nutrients and flavor. I packaged it up and put the eggs into our food storage. I now have eggs that I can use if I run out and need some or if there is an emergency and I need something to feed my family with. If you have chickens this is a great way to preserve them when they slow their laying down in the winter. They will also last me up to 25 years which I appreciate because then I can build up my food storage without having to eat it because it’s gone bad within 3 years!! Question about the freeze dryer? Leave them below. ____ Interested in Freeze Drying? LET’S CAN SOME MUSHROOMS! 🍄‍🟫 We used canned mushrooms in so many meals from spaghetti to homemade pizzas to stir fries! We’re so grateful to have organically grown mushrooms just a few miles down the road from us! Although you can’t beat fresh, having shelf stable mushrooms comes in clutch for meal time— and it’s so easy to preserve! Just wash, slice, boil for 20min, then ladle into sterile jars and process for 30min @ 10# PSI! I found that using my vintage Presto hard boiled egg slicer comes in clutch to quickly slice up these cremini mushrooms! #canning #preserving #forjars #farmfresh #mushrooms #farm #cantry #homesteading #homesteadlife

TASTE THE RAINBOW 🌈 ❤️ I love the bursts of color that grow in my garden spring through fall! I’m getting pretty antsy and already am planning 2025’s gardens! 🧡 What if we were dedicated to eating more of a rainbow of colors this year? Red, orange, yellow, green, white, blue and purple. 💛Each of these colors has health benefits, including: - Improved vision - Decreased inflammation - Reduced risk of chronic diseases— including cancer, heart disease and diabetes - Strengthened immune system 💚 These benefits are due to the phytochemicals that occur naturally within these foods. Phytochemicals also give foods their distinct aroma and taste. 💙 While each color provides certain benefits, when paired with other colors, the effects on your health are astonishing. 💜 Will you make it a goal to include more natural colors in your diet?! Winter can be hard to get fresh ingredients, so growing your own or supporting a local farm to put REAL, nutritious colorful food in your pantry is a great way to bring a little taste of summertime during the winter months!! CANNED GOODS IN ORDER: Cherry Pie filling Fire roasted tomatoes Hot pickled red peppers Sweet potatoes Pumpkin purée Smoked chicken stock Sweet corn Dandelion jelly Green beans Pickle relish Blueberry pie filling Black beans Potatoes Lilac Jelly #farm #goals #2025 #gardening #preserving #canning #cantry #tastetherainbow🌈 #tastetherainbow #tasty #natural #colorful #homepreservation #selfsufficiency #farmfresh
