Replying to @tracysmit84 We have an #update on Homer! While in the care of his former owner, sweet pup #Homer was brutally attacked by several other dogs. The violence left him with critical injuries, but instead of getting Homer the care he needed, Homer's owner ignored him. This sweet boy was relegated to the yard and left to rot in excruciating pain for over a week. Out of desperation, Homer tried to CHEW OFF HIS OWN LEG in order to end the agony it was causing. Local law enforcement does little to actually enforce the few animal welfare laws in this area, leaving rescuers on their own to help animals like Homer. Thankfully, rescuers were able to convince Homer's owner to surrender this poor dog into their care. As soon as they had him, they rushed him to the hospital for help. Since being hospitalized, Homer's doctors tried what they could to save his mangled limb. However, the damage was so extensive that the only treatment that would guarantee Homer a pain-free future was amputation. Homer underwent surgery to remove his mutilated leg and has been recovering ever since. Had he not been neglected for so long by his former owner, it is possible his leg could have been saved. Homer will need a month of recovery from his amputation before undergoing a second surgery to repair damage to his femur and hip. He will then need 6-8 weeks to heal from that operation. This sweet boy still has a very long road ahead of him. We need your help to ensure his care can continue and his rescue has all the resources they need to help him heal. We have another update to share on #Brady! For those just joining us, Brady the #Husky had been living on the streets of Cleveland, TX, for weeks outside a local Dollar Store. With no shelter in the area, shoppers did what they could for him by bringing bowls of food and water and even a blanket to keep him warm. However, tragedy struck when Brady was hit by a speeding car, leaving him with crippling injuries. The driver didn't bother to stop, so Brady was forced to drag his broken body back to the only home he knew: the Dollar Store. Brady's friends found him right away and immediately contacted rescuers. Brady was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he has been ever since. Brady suffered a broken spine as a result of the collision and has already undergone one surgery to repair the significant damage. He was scheduled to undergo a second surgery to address his injured leg, but that operation has now been postponed. Brady has come down with an Upper Respiratory Infection, and it is not safe for him to be put under anesthesia until the infection clears. Unfortunately, this setback will only prolong Brady's recovery. The recovery period for his second surgery is already estimated to last 6-8 weeks. Another complication arose when the top of the incision on Brady's back began to open 10 days after surgery. The incision was stapled shut to ensure it continued to heal. Brady is also receiving treatment for Heartworm disease, and he is dealing with some raw and painful tissue on his hindquarters that is being treated with antibiotic ointment. His condition is extremely fragile, and while he's made some remarkable strides, like standing for the first time on his own (!!!), he still has a VERY long way to go. Helpless Kitten Is Found Dragging Her Paralyzed Body, Crying Out For Someone To Help Her... Tiny #kitten Luna was found dragging her paralyzed body through the unforgiving streets of #Miami, crying out in fear and desperation. When a kind-hearted stranger found her, they couldn’t turn away. They scooped her up, placed her in a rabbit cage, and began the frantic search for someone who could help. Luna's finder called countless shelters and rescues, but no one wanted to take her. She was considered too difficult, too expensive—a kitten with no future. Finally, the finder reached out to Purrrfect Angels Cat Rescue, where we believe that every life is worth fighting for, no matter the odds. We said yes without hesitation and arranged for Luna to be transported to us in Central Florida. Upon her arrival, Luna was taken straight to the vet, where she is now hospitalized for intensive, around-the-clock care. Luna is paralyzed, with no feeling in her back legs. She is also dangerously backed up, unable to pass urine or stool on her own. The vet is beginning urgent treatment to stabilize her, but her journey is just beginning. We don’t know what the future holds for Luna—whether she will need surgery, a wheelchair, or lifelong specialized care. What we do know is that we won’t give up on her. This innocent baby deserves a future, and we're determined to give her one filled with joy and happiness. However, we can't do this without you. Sick, Starving, And Frozen To The Bone, Emaciated Shepherd Ate Trash Out Of Dumpsters To Survive The Unforgiving Streets... Freddy was found on the frigid streets, eating trash overflowing from a dumpster. After being taken to a local shelter, he was put on the euthanasia list. Despite being off the streets, his life was still on the line. When a local woman (@Bristexastails) found beautiful #Shepherd Freddy digging through trash for scraps of food, she knew she couldn't leave him. She hopped out of her car and easily got him on a leash. Given how comfortable he was, it is likely that Freddy once had a home. However, he was now a sick and emaciated stray. The unforgiving streets had not been kind to this poor boy. His coat was patchy and dull, with bald spots revealing layers of infected skin. He was also dangerously malnourished, his ribs and hip bones clearly visible as his body deteriorated. With Texas experiencing unusual and extreme cold weather, the woman knew Freddy couldn't stay on the streets for one more night. Not knowing what else to do, she brought him to the local shelter, where she thought he'd be safe. Unfortunately, she was wrong. Almost immediately after his arrival, Freddy was scheduled to be euthanized. The shelter was already so overcrowded, and his poor physical condition bumped him to the top of the list. Thankfully, Rescued Pets Movement intervened before it was too late. Although now safe, Freddy faces a long recovery ahead. Infection and malnutrition have taken a tremendous toll on his body, and he will need extensive care in order to heal. We are committed to supporting Freddy every step of the way, but we urgently need your help.
