I was enrolled to start nursing school last March, but I got sick on February 20, 2024. Last week, I had an assignment that required me to give a presentation, and I chose The Power of Art Therapy. Ironically, it has been exactly a year since that experience. This is the video I used as part of my presentation. It reminded me of these weary days but more importantly it showed me how resilient I truly am! I am so grateful that getting sick didn’t stop me from going back to school. To be honest, I almost let it—because I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Sarcoidosis, commonly known as the Bernie Mac disease. I was afraid that being around sick people would be bad for my health. But I chose to keep pushing forward and live my life because I refuse to let a “what if” control my destiny. I am currently in nursing school with just two terms left. I will be done in September.
