#scriptingandautism highlights the unique communication patterns in individuals with autism, emphasizing the importance of scripting as a coping mechanism, expression of emotions, and a means to navigate social situations effectively.
If your child uses delayed echolalia (also known as “scripting”) to communicate, they are likely a Gestalt Language Processor. (See my link at top of my page for more resources this ⬆️) Spoiler alert: you should NOT try and stop this! Why?? ♾️ It is so important to validate (not ignore) their language! This includes scripting (echolalia). ♥️ ♾️ Validating helps them feel seen and heard ♾️ Validating gives them confidence to communicate ♾️ This increases the likelihood of self-generated language in the future. There are so many factors that go into this (self/generated, unprompted language), but validating/acknowleging is so important! ♾️ Echolalia communicates!
