Like and share 👇 if baby gagging freaks you out! If yes, you’re in good company. It can help to remember that baby gagging is a normal, noisy, necessary part of learning how to eat. It’s actually a natural, built-in safety mechanism that allows babies to bring forward food they are not yet ready to swallow. So in many ways, it’s a GOOD thing! (I’m Malina, btw - pediatric dietitian & single mom of 3 specializing in nutrition for moms, babies & kids 💕 - and I’m so grateful to the amazing mom of this 11-month-old fab fellow for allowing me permission to share her helpful video!) If you’re finding it a major challenge to stay calm & positive & not intervene during a baby gag, the best thing you can do is to educate yourself about: ✅ Which foods, food shapes & textures increase choking risk⠀⠀ ✅ How to size & texture foods safely for baby ✅ What the differences are between gagging & choking ✅ Infant CPR & first aid, so that you are prepared in the unlikely event of a choking episode ✨ 👉 Choking episodes are rare. But it’s important for anyone feeding an infant to be trained in infant CPR and first aid, just in case. My fave online course for this is made by a nationally certified Red Cross and Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor. It’s an EXCELLENT, 2-hour, self-paced online course from @safebeginnings.
