Replying to @celeste clearing out the drafts if this is really the end, but if you have questions or want to set up a coffee chat — DM + follow me on my other socials @jacqbanal ANYWAYS, highly requested! here’s how I broke into the media/sports/music industries as a social marketer: 1. Made genuine friendships, not just Linkedin connections. I formed a close circle of people who could not only vouch for the work I could do, but the person I was! they were always putting me onto new jobs and giving me new opportunities. 2. I was always ready for that one yes. It’s a competitive space to get into esp in media, entertainment and sports. So use your “off seasons” to intern in different industries, build your personal brand and work on your portfolio! In college I was very involved on campus, but more so prioritized tangible work experience through internships. I had no big names on my resume when I got the Complex gig, so don’t be afraid/discouraged about building your foundation at smaller companies first! 3. I trusted the process. Was rejected from all my dream colleges, went a route I never had in my “big life plan,” applied to over 75 internships in one season and finally got a yes. Complex was the last app I submitted that year, it led me to 3 amazing years covering things like the Barbie Movie, The Oscars, NBA All Star Weekend etc. It only takes one yes, so believe that it’s all working out for you!! YOU GOT THIS! GOOD LUCK BESTIES 🫶🏽
