ACCEPT ALL FORMS OF COMMUNICATION! Just because a student doesn’t use expressive language or spoken word to communicate does not mean they aren’t talking. It also doesn’t mean what they are saying doesn’t matter. ALL COMMUNICATION NEEDS TO BE ACCEPTED AND VALUED! #spedteachersoftiktok #iteachsped #teachertiktok #spedteacher #spedteachersofinstagram #slpsoftiktok
This is the most toxic phrase I think you can say to any educator. Do you think a doctor, CEO, engineer, IT, or any other profession has a boss that asks them to “remember their why.” Typically this comment comes up when you’re expressing hardships of the job and honestly it’s belittling. Our why has nothing to do with it being hard or the solution to the problem. It’s why we come back even though the working conditions are not amazing. So basically they are saying yeah I know it suck’s right now but nothing I can do about it so you just have to accept it but to get through it remember how lovely your students are. It’s toxic positivity and it’s gross. #teachertiktok #spedteachersoftiktok #spedteacher #spedteachersofinstagram #teachersoftiktok #teachertok
It’s a hard pass for me me when it comes to edible reinforcers 🙅‍♀️ Here’s why: ➡️ Food is a right not a privilege ➡️ It creates a distorted relationship with food ➡️ Reward systems are not sustainable ➡️ They are not always easily accessible ➡️ Focuses heavily on compliance ➡️ Is not an intrinsic motivator Truly I could go on and on but I’ll stop there. When I ask people why they use edible reinforced nine times out of ten they say it’s to get the student to listen or manage a behavior. There are SOOOOOOOOO many other ways to achieve that!!! If you want to learn more about how to get your students to listen or address behaviors check out my Early Childhood Special Ed Master Course were we dive deeper into this topic. TEACHING ECSE CAN BE HARD!!! It can push you mentally, physically, emotionally, and professionally! The good news is we’re halfway through the year. But if you find yourself still contemplating if you can stick it out or maybe you’re approaching burn out you’re going to want to keep reading. The key to manning your sanity through the day is having a realistic mindset. What the heck does that mean? ⭐️ accepting the things you can and not control ⭐️ understanding that not everything has to be perfect with students sitting and attending at all times ⭐️ and just doing your best!! Want to make the change to a realistic mindset? Comment “mindset” and I’ll send you the link my MINDSET OF AND EDUCATOR MINI COURSE 🥰 #spedteachersoftiktok #iteachsped #teachertiktok #spedteacher #spedteachersofinstagram
