Imma give it to you straight, this is not at all how envisioned my time trial going. Monitoring the weather last night we weren’t supposed to get any snow until about 9am so I thought for sure I’d be good. When I woke up at 6 there was already a few inches on the ground though.  I did my best to control what I could. I shoveled the snow, layered up for my warm up, I even brought a few different pairs of shoes to the track to find the best grip At the end of the day the elements were just too much to overcome though and we ended with a 20:50 instead of my goal between 19-19:30. It’s frustrating because I know that’s no indicative of my actual fitness and I was ready to base build after this. We’ll have to get one more attempt, just trying to figure out move and whether I should give it 4 more weeks to sharpen/restore or just reattempt next week. The last few weekends we’ve been hit with snow though so there’s no guarantees. I was so full by the end. We have a ton of work to do!  I have had very minimal stomach issues during races (Ironman to Ultramarathons) and I think it’s because I take the time to practice/learn/train my body to take in alll the fuel it needs. ⛽️ Today was a great reminder to practice what I will do on race day.  I felt too full by the end.  Could be the effort/I wasn’t burning as many calories as usual. Could be because I’ve lowered my carb intake for 1.5 months as my mileage was lower. Could be a million other things.  Lots of time to practice between now and race day! Everybody’s got an opinion and no one has the full picture. Honestly though that’s just what happens when you put yourself on the internet so that’s ok 🤷🏻‍♂️ I didn’t grow up a runner, I wasn’t taught workouts and just told what to do all through high school then college as I got faster and faster. Instead 7 or so years ago I found myself overweight and out of shape pretty sedentary. I have adhd, I tend to hyperfixate and want to know EVERYTHING about certain subjects so instead of just running I read, I got certified, I hired a coach, I asked why, I learned. Then I became a coach because I saw a gap where many coaches hadn’t experienced the feeling of not being able to run more than a mile. That didn’t know what it was Iike running 12+ min miles.  Even then at the end of the day I just love running. So yes, I train for performance, but my goals aren’t always going to be “optimal.” Instead I set goals in a way that allows me to enjoy the journey and when I do inevitably hit my goals it’ll be that much sweeter knowing that I didn’t come out hating running on the other side  So I’m gonna keep doing things my way, putting family first, trying to squeeze it all in, just trying to find my run life balance!  #runnerdad #runlifebalance #dadsthatrun #5ktraining #easyrun #speedwork #5ktimetrial

SO MANY LIGHTS 🚨 Is this the carpet you were expecting??  Maybe one day I’ll walk on a red colored carpet but definitely not today because I am not leaving my house it’s cold out there. 😅 Training is not the most exciting right now. This part rarely is!! Wake up - eat - train hard - eat more - work - sleep a lot - repeat. Winter training can be brutal, but I’m enjoying the routine of it all! Managed to motivate myself to get outside and run despite just not having the motivation and I’m glad I did because my run ended up feeling great!  Doing some new stuff in the weight sessions to try to maximize my efficiency and make myself a more economic runner as well. Then after work and workouts had some family time with the kiddos! It always makes the time go by so fast and helped me get a 25 minute PR at The Chicago Marathon in just one year!  Though I do not expect to hit a big PR at the Chattanooga marathon this year my main goal for the race is to tackle the hills well and have fun! My go-to recovery activities include walking, lifting, and swimming! 2️⃣Nutrition Nutrition fuels workouts, enhances performance, and supports recovery. Proper nutrients optimize energy levels, repair muscle damage, and help your body adapt for better results. I fuel before, during, and after most of my runs, depending on their length. I’ve added @SaladPower to the mix for its high nutrient density—2x the daily recommended vegetables and FDA-approved!
