this was Jan. 1st 2021... utterly unreal not knowing how much worst it would actually get! 3 years almost in Memory Care now and he can't speak and doesn't know me or our child! He can't say I love you, or you're beautiful, or playfully smack my butt or in public! lol He can't take or son to hockey and help coach him or tell everyone how very proud of him he is! He totally tried giving high fives!! Granted there are times when the Alzheimer's brain is a big disconnect but there are plenty of times when it's working hard to do, see, say...all the things! I'm not sure if it's more heartbreaking for me or helpful for me! Everything with this disease is an oxymoron, opposing emotions every step of the way. Maybe Pat feels that way too?! I wish I knew!! I wish he could tell me! One things for sure, as hard as it is to be present with him in this journey, I wouldn't trade this time with him for anything. Just in the knick of time! Then varestagg was just getting him up out of his seat for bedtime when I came around the corner, but they sat him back down for me to visit! He had his slippers on so I'm guessing his toe nail either came off or is feeling ok. And yes, he had gone to the bathroom! Whew! I think the Memory Care homes Christmas party really buzzed everyone up!! lol A couple of them were in rare form, telling me all kinds of stories, following me around, giving hugs! One fella told me.his wife was probably cheating again, that she's done it before! lol Oh my!! Im sure the ones that can talk get real lonely and just want to share conversations! This is my sweet little husband, very sick with Early Onset Alzheimer's! It is called that (aka Younger Onset too) because it happened before the age of 65. In fact for him it was in his late 40s from 1st symptoms and not.till 54 till diagnosis. It's dreadful, a nightmare, 💯life altering...stopping "us" as we knew it and planned it dead in its tracks...So we still do "date nights", and I wisit him almost daily, but Fri. nights I try and make a little more special. He'll always be my date, and I'll do my best until I can't to make him feel special. Pray for us and pur family, it just gets harder and harder. Chocolate Protein Mug Cake for us to indulge in!! This recipe is for 1, and use a decent sized/oversized mug! 1 scoop protein powder of your favorite flavor choice. 1/2 t. baking powder. 2 t. cocoa powder. 1 to 3 t. of your favorite sweetener (Truvia, maple syrup, monk etc). Mix in mug with whisk till combined and add: 1 LG. egg. 1 to 3 T. of water (or milk) till well mixed and smooth consistency (not thick). Put in microwave 30 to 90 seconds depending on how it looks after each 30 sec. Should look fluffy and still moist but not wet! (it continues to cook after it's out!). Spray to top with cool whip spray or creamer or even a scoop of ice cream! Enjoy your high protein dessert in a mug!
