Books are an incredible tool for learning emotions. We talk about facial expressions, how situations cause certain emotions, physical sensations of feelings.. and we always have explanations for “why” even if I’m repeating it a million times. #autismparenting #autismparentingtips #momtok #preschoolmom #toddlermom #toddlertips #toddlertok #autismmom #autismdad #emotionalintelligence #readingiscool #autistictoddler #autisticcreator #momlife #momsover30
We’ll just ignore the very non calming sounds coming from our bulldog 🫠 Apparently the sound of birds chirping has a soothing effect on our minds, promoting relaxation and stress relief. He absolutely loved this and so did I 🐦 #toddlerhacks #toddlertips #overstimulated #azmom #arizonamom #toddlermom #toddlerboymom #toddleractivities

3 Tips to Help Foster Good Feelings about the Baby 1️⃣ Don’t force interaction. We never force our toddler to hold the baby or interact with the baby. In fact, we actually told her that she didn’t have to and that it was okay if she didn’t want to. Forcing interaction before they’re ready can be risky to your newborn. Let your toddler go at their own pace. 2️⃣ Instead of of saying “No don’t touch the baby! or “You’re too rough” We say things like “Can we touch the baby’s hands? or “Your brother loves when you touch him gently. This is how we touch gentle (and then show her).” We don’t want her to be afraid to be around or touch her sibling but children learn by demonstration. We also give lots of praise when she is gentle! 3️⃣ We talk to our newborn about our toddler so our toddler can hear. (Ex: Isn’t your big sister Breslyn so gentle? Doesn’t she give the best kisses? I love getting to spend time with your big sister!) This reinforces your toddler’s place in the family and reaffirms their value. 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀!
