⚜️ don’t say you’re happy, out there without me, i know you can’t be, cause it’s no good… ⚜️ happy depechecember! after a short break, the black celebration marches on…today, we are spinning @Depeche Mode’s ninth studio album, ultra ⚜️ after the devotional tour, alan wilder left depeche mode citing exhaustion and creative differences, the band continued as a trio as a result. they hired tim simenon (bomb the bass, neneh cherry) to produce their ninth studio album things were not easy. in the mid 90s, dave was battling substance addiction and was fighting to get clean. martin and fletch were unsure if dave was ever gonna show up let alone stay alive. however, after several brushes with oblivion, dave went to rehab, got clean, and rejoined his band to finish the record the band continued its 90s alt rock sound that they fostered in violator and sofad, but were heavily influenced by trip hop and big beat. tim simoneon forged a sound that had more breakbeats giving it that iconic late 90s sound the album certainly had a much more warmer and tender sound than sofad, and was a hit in both the united kingdom and the united states. the band embarked on a short club tour to promote the album and appeared on television as well, but opted to not go on a world tour due to dave’s health issues this record has a much more endearing and welcoming sound than sofad. although sofad is a masterpiece, this album is a much easier listen. my favorite songs are home, sisters of the night, and it’s no good #vinyltok #musictok #vinyl #vinylgirl #vinylcollection #depechemode #ultra #itsnogood #barrelofagun #alternativerock #synthpop #triphop #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #nineties #nowspinning #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp
