1. Try something that requires little to no permanent changes. 2. If it works, keep it going, and seek out finds to make it better. 3. Repeat. #urbanism #washingtondc #oldtownalexandria #walkable #pedestrian #transit
From last week, when I was in Georgetown, I realized that the neighborhood streets were incredibly peaceful despite being a block away from hustling and bustling on commercial streets. This is in part because of the complete infill of the commercial streets formed a sort of sound and visual barrier to protect the peacefulness of the neighborhoods. ##urbanism##cityplanning##georgetown##washingtondc##walkablecities##urbandesign
At Culdesac, we're showing that desert-adaptive, walkable neighborhoods can thrive in the U.S.! Thank you Kirsten Dirksen for putting together this amazing video! You can view the full video on her YouTube channel, Kirsten Dirksen. #urbanism #bikes #rail
Have you ever noticed the castle-like buildings in Burbank? We got curious and took a deep dive into their origins. Places are made better by making space for lots of little things. Like coral reefs are made beautiful by many little lifesforms, so downtown are most economically resilient, culturally, vibrant, and socially alive when it’s a place for lots of small things and not just a few big things. ##urbanism##downtown##design##entrancefrequency##chattanooga##transit##housing##smallbusinesses
Last presidency he moved the funds to rural highway maintenance and repair. I think we need those things, but i dont think it has to be a tradeoff with cycling and pedestrian infrastructure #cycling #infrastructure #urbanism #trump #seanduffy #visionzero

These are five books I read this year (in no particular order) that really got me thinking. 1. Killed By A Traffic Engineer by Marshal. Exposing the myth that our transit systems is based on science. Also, did a book club with Sam Sklar that made this fun. 2. Escaping The housing Trap by Marohn and Herriges of @Strong Towns I was surprised, once again, by the ability to have both my ideas so well articulated and shaped by yet another Strong Towns book. 3. There Are Bo Accidents by Jessie Singer. Not just about Transit, this book unpacked the idea that system is not individual mistakes make most accidents happen. 4. The High Cost of Free Parking by shoup. It took me too long to muster up the courage to read this, but you should read it! 5. The Power Broker by Caro I have been following the @99% Invisible book club on this and it’s been a blast! #bookstagram #strongtowns #urbanism #books #cityplanning
Because truth be told historical housing as far denser than single-family homes. Almost all measures to prevent up zoning are made in bad faith. #urbanism #cityplanning #georgetown #washingtondc

At Culdesac, we're building human-scaled housing and hope to inspire more walkable development across the U.S.! Thank you Kirsten Dirksen for putting together this amazing video! You can view the full video on her YouTube channel, Kirsten Dirksen. #urbanism #bikes #rail
These are a few books on aspiring to read this year. What am I missing? #urbanism ##BookTok##2025##readinglist##cities##design
U.S. cities can be walkable again! #WalkableCities #Urbanism #bikes #architecture #urbanplanning #arizona
It’s also a bit annoying that we now have another freeway lid over places like Montlake and Mercer Island, which are mostly wealthy single family neighborhoods, while more publicly beneficial freeway lids like over I-5 in downtown Seattle never get off the ground. #seattle #montlake #SR520 #urbanism #accessibility
Im a data guy, so i might have to outsource some of this to my engineer friends. This could be useful for sidewalks and ADA audits too #streetdesign #lidar #cityplanning #cycling #bikes #urbanism #civilenginnering #traffic
Cargo bikes are a game changer for urban living with kids. Sad for the last ride with baby for a little bit, but looking forward to more cycling discoveries in 2025. #CargoBike #BikeTok #BikeLife #VéloMtl #Montreal #MtlTikTok #Urbanism #CarsRuinCities // 🎶 Vesislava Todorova

Time to make this pedestrian crosswalk a speed bump. I saw a string of cars serve to avoid rear ending each other at this crosswalk this week because they were driving too fast to break when a crossing guard stopped traffic. This road is 25mph. The wide straight lanes and unprotected bike lanes = easy for drivers to speed. The roads design needs to make it difficult to speed. Narrow the lanes, raise the crosswalk, protect the bike lanes, light it better. Other ideas? #walkablecities #visionzero #annarbor #michigan #carsruincities #urbanism #pedestrian #protectedbikelanes
Replying to @afull122 Bike lanes are much easier for paramedics to navigate around/in than street parking and car traffic. It’s not complicated. #Toronto #TorontoTikTik #CanadaTikTok #BikeTok #Urbanism #CarsRuinCities
I was just trying to film the Trolley sign. Both vehicles turned left from their locations at the same time but failed to scan the entire road to anticipate this situation. The 5 lane wide road design gives so much space to drivers that they have a large margin of error - and aren’t paying attention as a result. These drivers got lucky. If they had crashed, what’s the likelihood a pedestrian (me) would’ve been hit by flying debris? Stroads are dangerous for everyone. The Durango Trolley is amazing tho! #walkablecities #publictransportation #durango #colorado #visionzero #urbanism #carcrash #urbanism #pedestriandignity
