In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Bo Jackson seemed capable of anything. He was a two-sport athlete at Auburn University, winning the Heisman Trophy as a running back and getting drafted by both the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Raiders. In 1990, he made history by becoming the first athlete selected for both the All-Star Game in baseball and the Pro Bowl in football. During that season, Jackson hit 28 home runs and 78 RBIs in just 405 at-bats with the Royals. He also played as a running back for the Raiders, rushing for 700 yards and averaging 5.6 yards per carry in 10 games. However, Jackson’s NFL career was cut short after a devastating injury in the 1991 playoffs, which required hip replacement surgery. Despite this setback, he made a remarkable comeback to baseball in 1993, playing for two seasons with the Chicago White Sox and California Angels, and still demonstrating flashes of his incredible athleticism. 👉 What is your favorite Bo Jackson story or memory? ⚾️⚾️⚾️ #bojackson #royals #kansascityroyals #vintagebaseballcards #vintagesportscards #baseballcards #sportscards #vintagecards #vintagesports #classiccards #nostalgia #bazookajoe #topps #vintagetopps #waxpacks #junkwax #baseball #junkwaxcollection #homerun #raiders #boknowsbaseball #nfl #halloffame #baseballhalloffame #MLB #hof #baseballjunkwax
Before signing a lucrative contract with the New York Yankees in 2002, Jason Giambi was recognized as one of baseball's top young stars while playing for the Oakland Athletics. Giambi had his best seasons in Oakland in 2000 and 2001, averaging 41 home runs, 38 doubles, and 129 RBIs, while batting .338. He was named the AL MVP in 2000 and was the runner-up for the award in 2001. Following the 2001 season, Giambi signed with the Yankees, where he played until 2008. In 2009, he returned to Oakland, but at 38 years old, the former MVP struggeled, batting just .193. He was subsequently traded to the Colorado Rockies late in the season to assist the team in its playoff pursuit. The five-time All-Star retired after the 2014 camoaign, concluding his 20-year career with 2,010 hits, 440 home runs, 1,441 RBIs, and a .277 average. 👉 Let's wish Jason Giambi a happy 54th birthday. In June 2000, after winning his first of five NBA championships, 21-year-old Kobe Bryant threw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium, with Vin Scully providing commentary. At that time, Bryant was establishing himself as a rising star for the Los Angeles Lakers. He would go on to have one of the most remarkable careers in NBA history. Scully, who began calling games in 1949, continued to work in the Dodgers' broadcast booth for another 16 seasons before retiring in 2016. 👉 Kobe Bryant and Vin Scully, you are both greatly missed. ⚾️⚾️⚾ #kobe #8 #kobebryant #ilovebaseball #baseballlove #baseballlifestyle #baseballlife #baseballhistory #vintagebaseballcards #lakers #baseball #dodgers #lladodgers #NBA #dodgers⚾ #vintagesports #membamentality #la #baseballgame #lalakers #MLB #mamba #ladodgers💙 #losangeleslakers #losangelesdodgers #baseballhalloffame #vinscully #baseballseason #dodgerstadium
