An 8-year-old Florida boy died after he was viciously attacked by two dogs, authorities said. In a news conference, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the boy was riding his bike with a friend when he stopped to pet one of the dogs, when the dogs attacked. The boy's mother dove on top of him, nearby residents administered CPR and called 911, but they were unable to save him, the sheriff's office said. #florida #dogs #child #volusiacounty

Meet our newest arrival named “Rags.” Rags is a ragdoll mix 11-week old kitten, and was found living outside of a motel in Holly Hill with a bad case of scabies. If left untreated, scabies can kill a cat (more about this below and what it is). Rags is such a sweet boy and purrs like CRAZY once you pet him. He LOVES to play with other cats or with any string/ball toy. He is doing great with treatment and is in great hands with our foster Candace. FELINE SCABIES is a contagious parasitic skin disease caused by the obligate parasite Notoedres cati, a mite that can only survive a few days off the host. Scabies (mange) has symptoms of scabs or flaky skin, typically starting around the edges of the ears or tail (as we showed in video). But other symptoms include: Intense itching Skin flaking Hair loss Inflammation Scabies CAN BE EASILY treated even if you can’t get close to the cat. Please remember this and don’t let an animal suffer! Contacting a local shelter or rescue can steer you in the right direction to get the pet help. You can even post to a pet group page on Facebook . Revolution placed on the back of their neck every 2 weeks for 3 doses works exceptionally well. You can also use ivermectin (food grade placed in their food), but have to know exactly how to dose it as you can overdose a cat easily with it . It’s been over 2 months since we shared an update on Dovey’s progress. (Her initial story down below). I have dealt with a few harder cases in my 15 years of rescue, but never a cat that was so incredibly unpredictable. Dovey just wants to be loved and be pet, but the smallest wrong move can trigger her to lash out in an aggressive way of biting, clawing, and hissing . After she stayed with us a week, the awesome Randie asked if she could give her a try as she has worked with many feral and aggressive cats in the past (and still does). OF COURSE, we took her up on this opportunity. It’s been almost 2 1/2 months now, and although the foster has got to understand her triggers more clearly, she again, is just super unpredictable. We have gotten her off all dry food (why so many cats get dehydration related health issues) and only eating Fancy Feast chicken pate wet food 2 times a day. Her fur is softer now. But we are trying to figure out her next home as she is just not a good candidate to go back up for adoption. HER STORY IF JUST NOW SEEING THIS: 2 years ago, Dovey was a baby kitten, who was rescued from living on a filthy trailer porch & known as being a part of the “Trailer 3” litter. She was adopted for a Christmas gift for a girlfriend, but after 2 year, a marriage, and the arrival of a new baby, Dovey is now returned back to our rescue 😟.
