Bottom watering is ideal once seeds have germinated and their roots can reach down for water, and there are a couple options for water soluble plant food. You can use insect Frass (my choice) or fish and seaweed emulsion. If you go the fish emulsion route, one thing to note, plain fish emulsion is all nitrogen if you get a fish AND seaweed emulsion, you have a more balanced NPK feeding. You can find fish and seaweed emulsion online, big box stores typically sell just fish emulsion. And you can buy insect Frass at www.kickassfrass.org And if you are not keeping your seedlings indoors for several weeks past potting up, they may not need any fertilizing at all before planting out, as long as your potting mix contains nutrients.
