I have nothing against those techniques. If they work for you keep on doing it.   I tried on and off for years and every time I used them I was resisting my experience.  Not fearing my experience was the thing that was missing.  I would do those things white knuckling it and checking to see if it was working (no lol).   Techniques kept me in my head and I was even more aware of how weird I felt and how disconnected I felt for my surroundings.  Grounding techniques were almost instant derealization.   Breathing exercises- I became hyper focused on my breathing and eventually forgot how to breathe effortlessly (that was a nightmare).  Add onto that that I felt really fucked up and broken because these things kept being recommended to me and they weren't working. What did that mean?! Lol   All it meant was that those things kept me in my head and what I needed to be was out of my head and in my life.   The fact that those things didn't work didn't mean anything besides that they didn't work.  What was missing was an understanding about how humans work.  And understanding that I was just feeling my revved up thinking and that was ok there was nothing I needed to "do". In fact, if I could do less I would settle even faster.  I didn't know that I was designed to return to balance.  I didn't know that I was completely perfect and mentally healthy but for my thinking.  I didn't know that thoughts flow all on their own and I was a one thought away from a whole new experience.
