Smart watch bands are more TOXIC than you realize! ⌚️ ☠️ A Notre Dame study found that 15 out of 22 smartwatch bands tested contained dangerously high levels of PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) —also known as forever chemicals. These toxic compounds, often associated with Teflon, are added to some watch bands to repel dirt and grime (but that cleanliness comes at the expense of your health)! Here’s why this matters: 👎 The PFAS and other chemicals in those smart watch bands absorb into your body through the thin skin on your wrist. 👎 The PFAS levels found in smartwatch bands are much higher than in other consumer products we also use everyday. ❌ PFAS exposure has been linked to liver and kidney damage, immune system issues, birth defects, and even CΛИC3R. ❌ Most bands marketed as "silicone like" that are soft and flexible are actually made with fluoroelastomers and not silicone. Watch bands made with fluoroelastomers can contain toxic compounds including at least one type of PFAS. These bands are often more expensive and marketed for their exceptional durability, resistance to heat, oils, chemicals, dirt, and water. ✅ To be safe, even if your smartwatch band for your Apple Watch, Fitbit, or Nike Watch claims to be "100% silicone," I'd steer clear of it to be safe and opt for a 100% stainless steel watch bands instead to minimize any toxic chemicals being absorbed into your skin. I found some really cool mesh stainless steel options online so there are some great alternatives for you. Who has to get a new smartwatch band now? 🤔 Let me hear about it in the comments! 👇
