Introducing new elements, like new nutrition, clothing, or gear, can negatively impact your performance by causing gi issues, discomfort, or unexpected malfunctions, as your body might react differently under the stress of a race compared to training, potentially ruining your race day experience, “if you didn’t train with it, don’t race with it.” When in training, you need to test several gels, shoes, pacing strategies, socks, helmets, bikes, to find one that works well with you. Once you find that specific something that works well with you, then keep working with that. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. You don’t know how things will be on race day… so don’t test your luck ;) NEVER TRI ANYTHING NEW FOR YOUR FIRST TIME ON RACE DAY.
