Pilates doesnāt have to be SLOW āØ itās a big misconception that moving slowly is a key pillar in Pilates I often hear teachers say āthe slower you move, the harder youāre workingā which again - not necessarily true but that is what I was taught when I first went through teacher training I was told slow is best but now after 6 years of teaching and going through a classical training Iāve learned that each exercise moves at a specific tempo, and rhythm and in order to sustain that tempo there has to be a high level of control in the exercise the perfect example of this is in stomach massage - if we just move slow through this series of exercises the heavy springs will make it feel like youāre fighting the resistance and moving through mud - BUT if you move at a quicker tempo and focus on controlling the equipment and your body youāre truly able to execute the stomach massage series much better. teachers - what are your thoughts? do you move everything at a slow pace - or do you keep a certain tempo when teaching?
