Lack of maturity in the workplace, particularly among colleagues, can be one of the most frustrating challenges a leader faces. Drawing on my 15 years of experience in the Marine Corps—developing, leading, training, and mentoring Marines—I have identified a trifecta of leadership that can elevate the maturity and growth of those around you. This concept applies to both superiors and subordinates if you're a senior leader. The trifecta of leadership is one of the most important aspects often overlooked in daily routines. If we fail to reinforce or implement these principles, their significance diminishes over time. As a result, the transformation from civilian to service member, or, in my case, from civilian to Marine, can be lost without the application of these three components. The trifecta consists of three elements: the core values of honor, courage, and commitment; our leadership traits—14 in total, remembered by the acronym JJ DID TIE BUCKLE; and the 11 leadership principles. Together, these make up the leadership trifecta. If you are not guiding, training, mentoring, or discussing these aspects of leadership with your subordinates, superiors, and peers, they will inevitably fade away. We must develop and reinforce these concepts. What are your thoughts on the trifecta or this idea? Please comment them below!
