Die cut leftovers• Trash🗑 or Treasure💎 from Gelli Arts® Artist @birgit_koopsen 👩🏻‍🎨 As a printmaker you should have a good look at every piece of trash you are about to throw away. It might just be a gel printing treasure worth holding on to! Have you ever taken a second look at the left overs after die cutting or do you just throw them away? When they look like this I definitely don’t throw them out because they make awesome masks/stencils for gel printing. 🎨Details: * I used acrylic paint. * It is important to use a thin layer of paint to allow the die cut paper to lift up all of the paint from the plate * I used an acrylic block to gently press down the paper without touching the paint in the open areas * Then I used crumpled baking paper to create texture in the open areas * After removing the die cut paper I let the first layer dry before adding the pick up layer * The large brayer is a lino roller and the width makes it very easy to blend the colors. * I let the paper (360gr/165lbs smooth paper for acrylic) on the plate until everything was dry. Artist Tip 💡 from Gelli Arts® Artist @birgitkoopsen 👩🏻‍🎨: Did you know that you can create beautiful textures on the gel plate using fabric? From burlap to jeans, from lace to crochet doilies, the gel plate will pick up every texture! 🎨Details: * I used acrylic paint, any brand will work * I used the mini placement tool to make sure each new print got in the exact right place. * The acrylic block was used to press down the fabric into the paint without touching the paint in the open areas by accident * I let every texture dry before adding the next * The paper I used here is 360gr./165lbs paper for acrylic paint * I left the paper on the plate until everything was dry Have fun and please share your prints with us! These are the basics that will directly affect the quality of your prints. Experiment with papers of different weights and textures to find what works best for your desired outcomes. I love Bristol, but also use other substrates. Timing and humidity can influence the effectiveness of your materials. 2. Master Layering and Color Mixing! Gel printmaking shines in its ability to create layers. Practice applying paints in thin, translucent layers and experiment with color blending directly on the plate.
