This beautiful lace doily was mixed in a bag of random material I got from a thrift store. To whoever made this, (you won’t see this but) thank you for your talent and co-creating this with me. I used fabric stiffener and got the doily soaked and went to work pulling it so it will dry and harden round and flat. I took wooden skewers and soaked them in water, bent and tied them around the hula hoop to dry. My purpose with the wooden skewers is to create the base of the frame. I have had the hula hoops for years and I don’t want to buy anymore, plastics take 20-1000 years to break down in landfills. I am becoming more conscious in my making and I’m experimenting with what works for me and the planet. I am learning. Eight minutes later check out my second photo on some fun batik tulis (hand drawn batik designs) based on our existing batik copper plates and a few flairs. Planning out all these designs for 2025 launches 🤩😍 I don’t have or know how to use design software.. so pencil and paper it is, which fortunately works well with how our artisans design their batik. In the past we have been creating our batik from our artisans’ copper plate stamps but picking the color combinations to use and which stamps to combine. From burlap to jeans, from lace to crochet doilies, the gel plate will pick up every texture! 🎨Details: * I used acrylic paint, any brand will work * I used the mini placement tool to make sure each new print got in the exact right place. * The acrylic block was used to press down the fabric into the paint without touching the paint in the open areas by accident * I let every texture dry before adding the next * The paper I used here is 360gr./165lbs paper for acrylic paint * I left the paper on the plate until everything was dry Have fun and please share your prints with us!
