Although I use movie/tv show subtitles when they are provided, there are times when they’re not and it’s certainly nice to have another tool like live captioning. Ultimately I want to see a world that’s more accessible and inclusive to everyone. My personal opinion: Air Pods are great if.. ✅ you are beginning your hearing journey and want to “test the waters.” Sometimes we don’t know what we are missing until we start experiencing it again, hearing included. ✅ You have a mild to moderate hearing loss. ✅ Your ear canals aren’t too narrow, too curvy, too straight and can retain Air Pods when you wear them (they don’t fall out). ✅ You hear well with Air Pods in quiet and noise. ✅ You’re ok not hearing when you have to them every few hours. ✅ You’re ok with wearing Air Pods and having conversations with others in public (some people find that wearing them signals not wanting to have conversations). ✅ If you are a big earwax producer, you are actively managing this so it does not interfere with the devices you wear in your ears. AirPods are not appropriate if.. ❌ You have previously worn prescriptive hearing aids. You will likely hear better with prescription devices because they are more tailored to your hearing needs while Air Pods are more over-the-counter. It’s like going back to cheaters after using prescription glasses- not the same. ❌Your hearing loss is more significant/severe. ❌Your ear canals are very narrow, curvy, straight. Hearing devices need to be “sealed” properly to ear canals in order to deliver the proper volume and with good fidelity. ❌You need to hear for long, waking hours. Air Pods need to be charged every few hours. Hearing aids will last a whole day (sometimes two) without needing charge. ❌You are a big earwax producer and are not managing this chronic condition (don’t know it’s there and/or don’t know how).
