Here’s how to NOT have your next outdoor activity ruined by a low blood sugar It’s time for cold weather activities, and if you’re not careful, you’ll be sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else having a great time. Here’s 3 ways to not do that: 1. Decrease your active insulin. Remember, insulin is going to become more powerful with activity, which will cause you to drop really quickly. On top of that, the cold weather is not going to do you any favors. 2. A meal with carbs, fat and protein prior. Fat and protein help stabilize your blood sugars, and carbs give you a quick energy source to tap into. You may need to consider adjusting your dose with your care team’s recommendations. 3. Consider having snacks at certain intervals along the way. The initial burst of fuel may help but if it’s a long duration activity you may need to continually fuel to be able to get what you ultimately need. Does your care team go over things like this? If not, you may need a new one 😎
