We went with a 26 gauge metal panel from @burrowspostframesupply on the roof and side walls. The color is called Textured Black and it’s gorgeous…not to shiny or dull… just the right amount of sheen. And it will really hold up to our weather and sunlight in Southeast Texas. And remember, when you’re ordering your metal panels for your own build project, pay attention to the gauge you’re being quoted. In general, we recommend at least a 26 gauge on the roof and 29 gauge on the side walls. The higher the gauge, the softer the metal. If you are in an area of the country that’s prone to heavy hail storms, a thicker roof panel is better. Most homeowner’s insurance will NOT cover cosmetic damage. This means that if you have a hail storm and it dents your roof panels, you could be on your own to fix. And because I’m running a business, playing grandma, loving life and acting as GC, our project is taking a little longer than we planned but we’re getting there. C’est la vie! Our Barndo shell went up super quick with the Rapid Frame System option from @burrowspostframesupply . Weather delays, Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays and subcontractor scheduling have extended our build a bit. That’s just part of construction, especially post Covid.
