His life before ending up in this box was... terrible =-( But, his delivery in that box from the shelter signifies a brand new beginning for him. Meet Mongoose. Mongoose ended up at the emergency clinic the weekend before Christmas. He had a cold, and it was suspected that he was hit by a car. His mouth was full of inflammation, and he had MANY broken teeth. His ears were flattened to his head, most likely from ear infections or cat fight wounds that had never been treated. He is FIV positive (weakened immune system but can live a normal life just like nonFIV cats). Once stable, he was transferred to the county shelter. We saw him posted on the missing pet site where volunteers post local animals currently at the shelter, and well, it was love at first site. Mongoose had all of his teeth removed last week, and during that surgery it was noted that he also has stenotic nares (narrow nostrils). This is often seen in animals that have "smooshed" noses...like pugs, Boston Terriers, Persians, and Scottish Folds. We can hear Mongoose breathing louder than a normal cat, but it doesn't seem like he's struggling to breathe. Regardless, we are getting him to see the vet ASAP to have a recheck on his mouth and to look more closely at the stenotic nares. Sometimes they can be improved with surgery, so we will see what we can do to help him. He's the sweetest, most loving cat. Geez...only thing I'm missing is a family of my own. Maybe today will be the best day...and someone will decide to adopt me! XOXO, Rocky Cocoa, Florida Rocky is about 3 years old, up to date on shots,  FIV positive, FELV negative, neutered and microchipped. FIV kitties can live with NONFIV kitties, and can live long normal lives. Rocky was rescued back in April of 2023 with a severe case of scabies.  He had been seen around the apartment complex for a long time prior to becoming sick,  and was most likely someone's pet left behind 😞 He became lethargic and anemic. We had heard the area where Mongoose was picked up is a very bad area for cats. We feared he would be returned to field there (rtf- a practice where cats are returned outside where they were found- or any random outdoor location 😫). But, it's worse than we feared. During the exam yesterday with Dr Nancy, a pellet was found in his chest. Mongoose was shot at some point in his life. And, he was hit by a car last month. Unfortunately, we doubt this was an accident as residents there purposely try to harm the cats with their vehicles. His life has been sad and terrible. But, that life is something he'll never know again. ------------ Mongoose was taken to the ER in December with a kitty cold, after someone had seen him getting hit by a car. Poor Mongoose tumbled after being struck and then scurried into the woods. A kind woman who traps cats found him in the woods and got him help (Thank you Dottie!). He was later transferred to the county shelter. Mongoose had major infection and inflammation in his mouth, but no major damage from the car accident. All of his remaining teeth were removed. He also has stenotic nares, which means his nostril openings are smaller than the average cat. His ears are flattened to his head, most likely from untreated infections and cat fight wounds. He is FIV positive (weakened immune system but can live a long, healthy life just like nonFIV cats).
