Open water swimming is scary ⬇️  🐊  For 1 on 1 coaching + training plans, submit an application (view bio). This was the night before the race behind our teams Airbnb. People were standing by the lake beside the Ironman race and we went to check it out… There was this beast sitting 10 feet in front of us. I was terrified if I was being completely honest.  Animals and getting over the fear of swimming with them is for sure something to go over. In all of my races, I’ve swam with sharks, snakes, jellyfish, gators and whatever else has been in those waters.  I’ve coached many athletes that have trouble with getting over this mental wall. That is all it is… A mental wall that is hard to break, but you can break it! I used to be terrified to do these open water swims with 1000’s around me… But through multiple races, visualization and mindset work, It doesn’t bother me as much now. Although I am never going to be 100% comfortable with it haha. Here’s why you shouldn’t  ⬇️ For 1 on 1 coaching + training plans, submit an application (view bio). Introducing new elements, like new nutrition, clothing, or gear, can negatively impact your performance by causing gi issues, discomfort, or unexpected malfunctions, as your body might react differently under the stress of a race compared to training, potentially ruining your race day experience,  “if you didn’t train with it, don’t race with it.” When in training, you need to test several gels, shoes, pacing strategies, socks, helmets, bikes, to find one that works well with you.  Once you find that specific something that works well with you, then keep working with that.  If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. You don’t know how things will be on race day… so don’t test your luck ;)  NEVER TRI ANYTHING NEW FOR YOUR FIRST TIME ON RACE DAY. Ironman Triathlon + Muscle Gain ⬇️ I started Ironman training 4 years ago with the goal of lifting while improving at Ironman races. 180lbs and was pretty lean. Today, I have trained for 3 Full Ironmans, 8 Half Ironmans, Qualified for Ironman 70.3 worlds with my Half Ironman PR of 4:38:22. At 180lbs, still… So how did I stay the same weight over years of endurance training? Strength training plus eating! Strength training to keep power plus muscle. Eating to replenish my body, to fuel my workouts, and to fuel recovery.
