NEW patient alert! “Luna Diane”. 🐢🦀 Luna Diane, a large Loggerhead sea turtle, was spotted by a recreational boater late Sunday, who contacted the US Coast Guard Key West Sector. The Coast Guard rescued the turtle on the water, and our team met them at the dock with the Turtle Hospital ambulance. 🚑 She’s covered in barnacles, and a crab can even be seen exiting and entering the wound in her shell where a boat had hit her. 💔 Luna Diane has a long road of recovery ahead. “Jesus” is going to be released from Sombrero Beach Marathon, Florida on Sunday. ❤️🩹🐢 Jesus was found struggling at the surface with a heavy load of Fibropapillomatosis tumors off of Key West in May of last year. Jesus was rescued and taken to The Turtle Hospital for treatment. Treatment included tumor removal surgeries, wound care, antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins. 🚑 Jesus was strong and is now healthy and ready to return to sea! It is with heavy hearts that we report, Benson a Loggerhead Sea Turtle in rehabilitation at The Turtle Hospital has passed away. Benson had barnacles removed so the veterinarian team could do a diagnostic endoscope. The scope confirmed Benson had internal FP tumors. Luna Diana's Exam with Dr. Terry. 🐢👨⚕️ We weighed her in at 271 lbs (122.92 kg). Dr. Terry applied some wound care to her boat strike, and during that procedure, we were able to rescue the crab and return it to sea. 🦀 We relocated Luna Diana to the tidal pool to see how she would do in deeper water and a slightly more natural environment. 🌊 Luna Diana's bloodwork is good, she is eating well, and she appears strong!
