Things aren’t always as they seem. Remember, not all tics are visible and this is just one of the many examples of what I mean by that! Sometimes they’re mental, sometimes you don’t realize they’re tics, and sometimes we’re doing it where not everyone or anyone can see them. . . .

Literally, there are no memories of living inside of a body that does’t tic. . . .

Sometimes people don’t think about what they say. Sometimes people don’t know what to say. Sometimes people just don’t know that what they are saying isn’t actually as funny as they think it is. Whatever the reason, even though I’m never really shocked anymore, I’m still taken back by what people think are okay things to say… even when it seems small to other people. . . .

The perfect sound because I LOVE the show Friends and sometimes, it really does feel like we’re speaking a different language when trying to explain this. No matter how much the tics bother you or someone else, I promise they bother the person who is ticcing a lot more. We cannot control tics when we have Tourette Syndrome or Tic Disorders. . . .

So many people think I don’t tic around them, when in reality, I’ve just gotten really good at finding little moments in conversation to let tics out without them seeing. Or masking to try and make it look like something else. Because even though I may seem like I’m confident in myself and my tics to some people, I’m still incredibly self conscious on the inside. . . .

Not all tics are visible. Not all tics are huge. Sometimes we learn to hide them or push the tic to a different spot. We’ve learned to mask in different and subconscious ways. Sometimes it’s just the way our body tics in general. No matter the reason, you can never judge a person’s tics based solely off what you see. . . .

Other people’s inability to accept us and accept Tourette Syndrome for what it is, is hurtful, damaging, and one of the hardest parts about living with Tourette Syndrome. . . .

I’ve talked a handful of times about the ridiculous comments I’ve received on my videos - they especially come in hot and heavy whenever I post of video of some of my bigger and more complex tics like the one with Chandler. These are just a FEW of them and just about all (if not 100% all) online advocates receive ones just like this and so much worse. A troll or a keyboard warrior will NEVER stop me, but it’s still insane that so many people are “bold” enough to say things like this when they’re behind a screen. As a person with a disability and something difficult to live with these comments can definitely get to me from time to time - but as I said it won’t ever stop me. But I beg of you instead of just being accusatory, rude, ugly, and mean.. just be kind. Move on if you don’t like it. It’s not that hard to do. . . .

A lot of people have the misconception that people with Tourette Syndrome or Tic Disorders will tic the same way or at the same level of tics. But, we’re all different people. We as people might not even tic the same way we did the day before, the month before, or from a different time in our lives. It doesn’t mean the person is faking or lying about what they have. It’s different for everyone and it always will be. . . .

I think it’s common and natural to think that if our tics are hurting us whether from the tics themselves or because we were already in pain to begin with, that our brains/bodies wouldn’t make us do it anymore. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. For a lot of people, myself included, the pain points trigger MORE tics in those areas. It’s as if my body reads those signals and thinks I want or need to do it more. For example, after having a dental procedure today, any upon body tics (shoulders, neck, jaw, head) have been triggered more and even though I’m already in pain, it won’t stop the tics from coming. It’s an unfortunate truth and just goes to show even more that the more we don’t want tic, the more they can happen. . . .
