We had a blast at our Human Remains Detection workshop yesterday held at the Ontario Canine Wellness Center. Workshop was taught by Susan Read. We lucked out with beautiful weather. Maes did amazing, and it was great to see him take to the new odour quite easily, enough where I felt he would be able to do the higher inaccessible hide at the end. There was one lower for those dogs who might struggle. The goal here was for the dogs to be as successful as they could be, and each dog was different. What was the odour used? A human placenta. While this is obviously NOT something that can be a sport, it was great getting to see demos by an actual cadaver dog, learn about how much training these dogs go through (because body composition changes smell and also once its bone, that's a whole different smell too!) and getting a chance to even be introduced to it.
