🎄 Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎄 After a whirlwind Christmas Eve in my South Carolina kitchen, cooking and preparing food, opening gifts, cleaning up, and putting my ham in the oven to cook low and slow all night, I woke up this morning to the most perfectly cooked ham! ☺️ With coffee in hand, I took a moment to watch a little TikTok before hopping in the shower to wash my hair and slip into my Christmas pajamas. Today, I’m back in the kitchen, finishing up our Christmas dinner feast: ham, ham rice, green beans, dressing, giblet gravy, collards, and deviled eggs—a true Southern spread. I’m so thankful for the wonderful time we had last night, watching the grandkids’ faces light up as they opened their gifts. Those moments are treasures, and so is the time spent in the kitchen, pouring love into every dish. I hope my children will always remember the way I cooked things—how I prepared each meal with care and love. And I hope my grandchildren will hold onto those memories too, remembering how “Nanny” cooked in her South Carolina kitchen on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. One day, I hope they’ll prepare their own meals the same way, carrying on these traditions and keeping the flavors of our family alive. While I wish everyone could have been here today, I understand that life happens. To those who couldn’t join, you were missed. Now, let me tell you about our simple but meaningful New Year’s meal. We didn’t plan a big dinner because we’re still recovering from all the holiday cooking! My son stepped in and whipped up a meal that was just perfect: ✨ Collard greens from a can ✨ Two big cans of pinto beans ✨ Spam ✨ Homemade mac & cheese from leftover holiday cheeses (waste not, want not!) Both of my sons love to cook, but the one who took over the kitchen today has a passion for grilling and smoking meats on his Traeger. He’s a natural chef, always experimenting and learning new techniques to make everything taste amazing. But of course, he called on Mama to make the cornbread! I grabbed my trusty iron skillet and taught him step-by-step how to make it just right. Now, he’s got Mama’s cornbread recipe down! It wasn’t fancy, but it was full of love—and we are full and blessed. As we step into 2025, I’m so grateful for each and every one of you.
