Composting and reducing food waste is one of the biggest climate actions an individual can take! 🌍🫶🏼 EPA estimates that more food reaches landfills than any other single material in our everyday trash (24% of municipal solid waste), where it emits a powerful greenhouse gas called methane. Composting not only recycles kitchen scraps but also reduces methane production by promoting aerobic decomposition. It’s a simple yet impactful step we can all take to curb food waste and fight climate change. ♻️ 💚 I have tried a few different methods of composting! Including vermicomposting (indoor and outdoor), using a composting tumbler and electric composter. -Tumbler: This was not my favorite. I was never able to get a good, balanced compost. -Electric composter: I used this for a short period to supplement composting in the winter. It wasn’t my favorite because of the noise, energy usage and overall costs. -Vermicomposting. This has been my favorite method by far! While I originally found it daunting, I have learned to love it. I vermicompost both indoor and outdoor. Outdoors, I use my Subpod, which is an in-ground compost bin and worm farm that I put directly into my garden. Indoors, I use @Worm Bucket, which can fit under your kitchen sink and provides everything you need to get started. Since the bucket is on the smaller side, I would only recommend this if you live in a single person house hold or to supplement your composting 🪱 code: Sabrina List of things you can and can’t post in most composters! Things You Can Compost: Fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and filters, eggshells, yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, small twigs), shredded newspaper and cardboard, plant trimmings, straw or hay, and wine corks Things You Can’t Compost: Meat and dairy products, oily or greasy foods, pet wastes, diseased plants, glossy or colored paper, plastics or synthetic materials, coal or charcoal ash Let me know what composting questions you have! #composting #reducefoodwaste #climateaction #howtocompost #climatechange #sustainableliving #Sustainability #compot #lowwasteliving #vermicomposting #composting101 #compostingforbeginners
