#disneyattraction showcases thrilling rides, enchanting experiences, iconic characters, magical moments, immersive storytelling, family fun, nostalgic adventures, whimsical landscapes, vibrant parades, unforgettable memories, theme park excitement, cultural diversity, and fan creativity.
Technically, it’s “Catgoyle on the Loose Statue!” (The exclamation point is my favorite 😂) When ghost host voice actor Paul Frees was recording the narration for the Haunted Mansion, he recorded several outtakes that talk about the one-eyed demon cat, which was a part of the script that never ended up making it into the final story. The idea was the demon cat slipped in the door when the butler wasn’t looking. He was a powerful being that hated mortals, so the ghost host warned guest at the beginning of the ride to be aware of the cat. The cat’s head would first follow guests as a glowing eye, then appear as an undead cat’s head, and finally transform (oddly enough) into a human skull and popping out at guests as they made their escape. I do want to mention that this is just my personal theory about the cats in the queue, but it’s based off of solid evidence of the Haunted Mansion’s history. I don’t know for sure that the imagineers intended this transformation, but it seems likely as they teased one-eyed cat story in their concepts for the new queue. Given that everything in the queue is foreshadowing (or alludes to transformation), it makes sense that as you draw closer to the Mansion, your sense of foreboding grows and the cat changes from somewhat cute and cuddly to terrifying. What I wouldn’t give to see those traveling lights again 😭 Honorable mentions for other concepts I considered: -Rolly Crump’s creepy hand vase & mushroom people - A little spider in a top hat (like the one playing the organ in a Marc Davis concept) - Words from Leota’s lost incantations (“Harpies and Furies, old friends and new, Blow on a horn, so we'll know that it's you…. Horned toads and lizards, fiddle and strum, Please answer the roll by beating a drum.”) The champagne could possible sit on a table up on the second-story balcony, like the glasses of lemonade used to back in the day. I think it would be a fun way to both foreshadow what’s to come and allude to life that used to be lived in the Mansion. 🤷‍♀️ But really, the well (probably not a wishing one, I misspoke 😂) that was going to be in the southern exit was what I was REALLY hoping for. They could easily just illuminate the water red at night with lighting so it could be somewhat “normal” the during the day. The inscription I mentioned was supposed to be scratched on a nearby wall, and even if it was tiny, I think it would be fun to have, like graffiti from regions beyond 👻 All of these ideas are just things I considered (hoped?) they might do during this remodel.
