Again no hate at all to this person, I would love to be able to eat like this because I love food. I just want to be able to use this as a way to show you that you can make food swaps for lower calorie higher protein options IF you are trying to eat healthier. A lot of people donā€™t want to eat healthy because they think itā€™s just water, bland chicken and broccoli. Itā€™s not. You can still enjoy a whole lot of food and a wide variety of meals and still eat healthy. Also there is a ton of fear mongering around food because certain things arenā€™t ā€œhealthyā€ and that the only way to eat healthy is to eat grass fed pasture raised ethically grown steak and beef tallow off of a cutting board. Itā€™s important to know that nutrition is on a continuum. Some things are better than others as far as nutrition goes and some things are better than others as far as taste goes. You donā€™t have to try that hard when youā€™re younger and pair that with the stresses of life and raising a family, you got the perfect recipe for deteriorating health. You might find yourself in the same boat. Donā€™t worry itā€™s not too late. But it is going to require consistent effort. Itā€™s simple but not easy. Most people fear aging because of gray hairs and wrinkles, but what they should be fearing is FEELING old. The one way to keep your body young is to exercise and eat right. You donā€™t have to be perfect, but you do need to make it a part of your every day life. As you get older your body just stops prioritizing things like it used to. Sarcopenia (the loss of muscle) sets in faster and your cells donā€™t regenerate like they did when you were younger. Your brain is resistant to learning new things and reverts back to old neuro pathways. The good news is that you can reverse a lot of that, but it takes work now. Aging is something to look forward to because just doing something as simple as walking on a daily basis will put you light years ahead of your peers both mentally and physically. Accept that you are going to age. Accept that it will take work. Fitness is so confusing because there really is no ONE right answer. There are a lot of variables that go into helping someone get fit: age, training age, gender, hormones, background, lifestyle, injuries, habits, etc. You also have to take someoneā€™s goals into consideration. Some people just want to be able to play with their kids without getting winded while other people want to look amazing on the beach. Then there is a ton of conflicting information out there and some downright misinformation so people can capitalize on your confusion. Regardless of those things, you can still figure out what works for you by starting small and giving your self enough time to figure out what is working and what isnā€™t. Iā€™ve made a ton of mistakes in my lifetime, but those mistakes helped me figure out the key things that actually matter for ME. MyFitnessPal can be anything BUT a pal sometimes. Tracking food isnā€™t as straightforward as it may seem because there are so many conflicting things with the app. Here are some tips: 1ļøāƒ£ Always do your own macro calculations and average in your daily activity and turn off the function that factors exercise calories back in. 2ļøāƒ£ When you can, use the the items with the check mark when entering food. 3ļøāƒ£ Double check your serving size when entering in items AND make sure you are logging things like chicken or rice as cooked or uncooked depending on how you weigh them. 4ļøāƒ£ When you have to guess which food to use, choose the one that is higher calorie when there isnā€™t a verified item IF you are trying to lose weight. 5ļøāƒ£ You donā€™t have to hit each macro goal at the end of the day except your protein. If youā€™re trying to lose weight itā€™s fine to be under calories on some days. There are a lot of factors that come into play when building strength. If youā€™re a beginner you can just get into the gym and start lifting and most likely you will get stronger by simply utilizing progressive overload (weights going up progressively over time). Eventually you will hit a plateau where you will need to systematically build strength. You first want to figure out your goals and/if you want to target a specific area of strength. Then select a program (or make your own) that moves you through a periodization of strength building. Your body has two factors when it comes to strength: The load your muscles can push AND the amount of muscle recruitment your central nervous system (CNS) can handle. Then you have to be getting enough rest and recovery and have your nutrition on point to support muscle and strength building. Finally you have to be patient. As you get stronger, the strength gains get smaller and smaller and you have to lift with more intensity to see even the smallest of gains. You might hate how your body looks right now, which is totally understandable. But turning that into hating your actual body and yourself and trying to use that as motivation to get fit, will result in some bad consequences. I didnā€™t realize it at the time but when I used hate as my primary motivator, I would often push myself too hard on workouts and on my diet. First my workouts werenā€™t based around what was optimal for my health and strength, but how much pain I could put myself through. Second my diet was often starving myself and eventually binging. The starving was about pain and the binging was about treating my body like a trashcan because I told myself I hated it. It wasnā€™t until later that I realized that you have to love and respect the ONE body you get. No this isnā€™t a body positivity post.  This is about a logical and healthy way to get fit, get stronger and get lean. And most importantly live a happy life.
