When I first started running in 2020, I thought to myself… “HOW DO PEOPLE ENJOY THIS?” 😱 I would go out, attempt to run one mile, and suffer during every step. I think this is one of the biggest barriers when starting your running journey. GETTING THROUGH MILE ONE. During that first mile, my body is still getting warm, I am thinking too much about work or what I need to do later, spending too much time trying to find the perfect playlist, getting out of my neighborhood dodging cars/people, and just not IN IT yet. 💗 If you are just starting, you are not alone in this feeling. Because let’s be honest runners, sometimes that first mile just HURTS. No wonder people do not like it and stop. 💪 Here is what helped me get past mile one: 1. Mixing in walking and running. Example: run for 30 seconds and walk for 1-2 minutes. 2. Warming up, properly. 3. SLOWING DOWN. Everyone says this, but it is true. Do not look at your watch!!! 4. Taking breaks as needed. To this day, if something feels off or I need a minute to catch my breath, I STOP and walk. 5. NOT comparing my pace to others. Running is NOT easy. As I continued to SHOW UP and RUN AT MY OWN PACE it became enjoyable. I promise. 🤝 Runners, tap in, does mile one still hurt sometimes? How do you get through it? Leave your answers in the comments and let’s support those new to this sport!! 🏃♀️ You got this. We got this.
