❌ Unpopular Opinion: Relying on Corporate for Security is an ILLUSION Only 2% of leadership roles go to Latinas. And I learned firsthand what happens when someone in power wants to remind you of that. I once had a manager yell at me in a 1:1 meeting after hours—“I know how your kind are.” Profanities followed. I walked out. She followed me through the office, as I frantically was looking for someone who stayed in the office late. She kept trying to coerce me into riding with her back to our hotel. Stating I was being insubordinate by declining. She wouldn’t take no for an answer—until a coworker saw what was going on and intervened. My gut told me: If I got in that car, I wouldn’t be here today. And I believe that deep in my bones. Fast forward—HR backed her up despite a witness. The corporation was toxic and had ongoing lawsuits and settlements for workplace harassment. I left. I joined another corporation, had a great experience, but the leadership team? Over 90% men. The only Latina woman? She didn’t last. And she was in charge of Equity and Inclusion. That said everything. Life isn’t fair. The system isn’t built for us. So I built my own. And the liberation that brings? Worth it. ❌ Not because I was throwing my career away. ❌ Not because I wasn’t good at my job. ❌ Not because I was “too sensitive.” But because I refuse to let someone else decide my worth. 💃🏼Drop “LIBERATED” if you’re done waiting for permission to take up space.
