Injured Dog Tried to Tear Off His Own Leg, Desperate For Relief After Owner Ignored His Wounds For Over A Week... After being repeatedly attacked by other dogs, Homer was in desperate need of medical attention. However, rather than bring him to a vet, Homer's owner left him to rot outside for over a week. The pain in Homer's wounded leg became so unbearable that he began tearing at the limb in a desperate attempt to end his agony. One of our rescuers became aware of the situation and convinced the owner to surrender Homer to our team. Unfortunately, the police in the area aren’t very willing to intervene when it comes to animal ab*se cases. We rushed him to the emergency hospital, where he is now receiving critical care and pain management. Homer has an open leg fracture with missing bones in his ankle and fragments of bone in his intestinal tract, confirming his self-mutilation. He also has a chronically dislocated hip and three spinal fractures in various stages of healing—evidence of prolonged abuse. Despite the agony he has endured, Homer remains miraculously gentle and loving. Homer’s recovery will be long and costly, involving multiple surgeries, ongoing treatment, and rehabilitation. He will never suffer cruelty or neglect again, but we need your help to nurse this sweet dog back to health and give him the life he's always wanted. Please consider contributing to Homer's medical fund or donating any items from his wish list of essentials. Your support is crucial to Homer's recovery. We will be sure to provide updates on his progress when we can. Thank you for your invaluable generosity. Replying to @Tink 💕 We have an #update on Brady! Brady the #Husky had been living on the streets of Cleveland, TX for several weeks outside of a local Dollar Store. With no shelter in the area, shoppers did what they could for him by bringing him bowls of food and water and even a blanket to help him stay warm. However, tragedy struck when Brady was hit by a speeding car, leaving him with crippling injuries. The driver didn't bother to stop, so Brady was forced to drag his broken body back to the only home he knew: the Dollar Store. Thankfully, his new friends found him right away. Rescuers were contacted right away, and Brady was rushed to the hospital. He had a dislocated hip and a severely swollen leg, though no breaks were detected in his limbs. The real shock came when we learned that Brady’s SPINE was fractured. As if that weren’t enough, Brady is also suffering from advanced Heartworm disease, Hookworms, and Whipworms, putting strain on his heart, lungs, and GI system. Brady is estimated to be around four years old, but his body has been aged by hardship. His broken, tartar-coated teeth indicate he likely ate rocks and debris just to survive. A costly CT scan was necessary to determine the extent of his spinal injury and what steps, if any, could be taken to restore his mobility. However, his immense parasite load created major complications for any prospect of surgery. Thankfully, Brady has been able to undergo one operation so far! A $5,300 procedure was performed to repair some of the damage to his spine, and he is now in recovery. He's still not able to stand, but he has sensation in his hindquarters, which is an encouraging sign! He will soon undergo another costly surgery to repair his damaged leg, followed by 6-8 weeks of rehab. Your support has been invaluable to Brady during this phase of his recovery, and we will need all the help we can get as his healing continues. Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far. We will continue to provide updates on his progress when we can! Replying to @tracysmit84 We have an #update on Homer! While in the care of his former owner, sweet pup #Homer was brutally attacked by several other dogs. The violence left him with critical injuries, but instead of getting Homer the care he needed, Homer's owner ignored him. This sweet boy was relegated to the yard and left to rot in excruciating pain for over a week. Out of desperation, Homer tried to CHEW OFF HIS OWN LEG in order to end the agony it was causing. Local law enforcement does little to actually enforce the few animal welfare laws in this area, leaving rescuers on their own to help animals like Homer. Thankfully, rescuers were able to convince Homer's owner to surrender this poor dog into their care. As soon as they had him, they rushed him to the hospital for help. Since being hospitalized, Homer's doctors tried what they could to save his mangled limb. However, the damage was so extensive that the only treatment that would guarantee Homer a pain-free future was amputation. Homer underwent surgery to remove his mutilated leg and has been recovering ever since. Had he not been neglected for so long by his former owner, it is possible his leg could have been saved. Homer will need a month of recovery from his amputation before undergoing a second surgery to repair damage to his femur and hip. He will then need 6-8 weeks to heal from that operation. This sweet boy still has a very long road ahead of him. We need your help to ensure his care can continue and his rescue has all the resources they need to help him heal. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Homer thus far. We hope you will continue to support this sweet boy by sharing his story and donating if you're able. We have another update to share on #Brady! For those just joining us, Brady the #Husky had been living on the streets of Cleveland, TX, for weeks outside a local Dollar Store. Brady was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he has been ever since. Brady suffered a broken spine as a result of the collision and has already undergone one surgery to repair the significant damage. He was scheduled to undergo a second surgery to address his injured leg, but that operation has now been postponed. Brady has come down with an Upper Respiratory Infection, and it is not safe for him to be put under anesthesia until the infection clears. Unfortunately, this setback will only prolong Brady's recovery. The recovery period for his second surgery is already estimated to last 6-8 weeks. Another complication arose when the top of the incision on Brady's back began to open 10 days after surgery. The incision was stapled shut to ensure it continued to heal. Brady is also receiving treatment for Heartworm disease, and he is dealing with some raw and painful tissue on his hindquarters that is being treated with antibiotic ointment. His condition is extremely fragile, and while he's made some remarkable strides, like standing for the first time on his own (!!!), he still has a VERY long way to go. Your support has been invaluable to Brady as his recovery continues, and we will need all the help we can get to support him through these setbacks. Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far. We will continue to provide updates on his progress when we can!
