One of the most eye-opening things I ever learned about the body was this connection. When I started seeing people get their top permanent retainers off and their neck pain instantly dissolve in many cases, I was blown away. Getting a top retainer is a very common strategy post-braces removal because it holds the teeth in place and forces them not to revert back to their previous malignant. But here’s what no one asks - why do the teeth want to move back to where they were pre-braces? Teeth grow straight down, so if they’re not growing straight down and there’s crowding/poor alignment, that’s happening for a reason. Probably because you have: - A top and bottom jaw that are misaligned - An upper or lower jaw that isn’t developed enough - An uneven/asymmetrical jaw And so many more potential considerations. The unfortunate reality is that most dentists just care about straightening your teeth, not why your teeth aren’t straight in the first place. These permanent retainers are basically gripping your upper jaw together, desperately holding everything together. And that locks up structures, bones, and joints around it. Down the chain too. I want to finish by saying this isn’t me trying to step out of my lane - this is essentially me regurgitating what I’ve learned and observed from high level dentists (such as @alamposturaldds) and myofunctional therapists (such as @integrative_myo) who really know their stuff. If you think you may benefit from getting your permanent retainer off, it’s not as simple just pulling the trigger on it. You need to speak with someone who understands cranial bone and jaw movement/alignment in context with the rest of the body, not just any dentist who is primarily concerned with “straightening teeth”. —— #dentistry #teeth #tmd #tmj #cosmeticdentist #braces #jawpain #neckpain

Do you experience jaw pain? Maybe a lump in the throat or difficulty swallowing? Well the digastric muscle has been shown to cause all of that along with tension in the bottom two front teeth. The digastric connects from the jaw itself to the skull and the position of the head and neck actually impacts tension on the jaw, which can then transfer to the throat. In this video, I show you a simple way to release it. Now, as you know, if you follow my page stretching and massage alone just treats more of a symptom, and we need to understand, nervous system function; positioning or moving patterns to make sure it does not come back. Give this a try! #tmj #tmjdisorder #tmd #dentisty #dentists #myofunctionaltherapy #neckpain #neckpainrelief

Do you experience jaw pain? Maybe tension in your throat and neck, a lump in the throat or difficulty swallowing? Well the digastric muscle has been shown to cause all of that along with tension in the bottom two front teeth. The digastric connects from the draw itself to the skull and the position of the head and neck actually impacts tension on the draw, which can then transfer to the throat. In this video, I show you a simple way to stretch it. Now, as you know, if you follow my page stretching and massage alone just treats more of a symptom, and we need to understand, nervous system function; positioning or moving patterns to make sure it does not come back. That is what the second exercise will address where we build strength to pull the head and shoulders into a more optimal position. #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #dentist #neckpain #headacherelief #migrainerelief

Click the link in my bio to see my 5 FAVORITE headache exercises! Do you experience daily or weekly ongoing headaches? Does your entire head just feel really sensitive? And if you touch almost anywhere in the region it hurts? Very commonly, this can be due to peripheral and central sensitization . The longer you’re in pain or experiencing headaches, the more dysfunctional, your nervous system becomes reacting to normal sensations as if they were painful keeping you extremely sensitive. One of the ways that we can reverse. This is by providing normal input through those muscles by releasing them. This will start normalizing sensations in communication between the brain and the receptors in your body. Now what this does not account for is why you are having the headaches in the first place… to figure that out we need to identify the root cause . Comment the word ‘HEADACHE’ on this post if you help identifying the root cause of your headaches! #headaches #headacherelief #migraine #migrainerelief #chronicpain #tmjdisorder #tmd #neckpain #neckpainrelief
Do you experience headaches, eye pain, burning eyes or pain at the base of your skull or along the side of your head? Well, very commonly if we overuse the wrong area of our neck, it can produce these types of symptoms. So while many people may be fearing the worst, such as something wrong inside their brain with their nervous system… very commonly. It’s just a case of moving incorrectly. You see the upper neck can rotate flex extend, and while its responsible for a significant amount of the movement, it should not be used exclusively, and when it is overused the nerves, blood vessels and muscles up there produce headaches, dizziness, and eye burning. In this video, you will learn an exercise to begin retraining and strengthening your neck to be used properly. You will be amazed at how much relief can get simply by changing the way you move. #headaches #headacherelief #migraines #uppercervical #dizziness #migraine #neurologist #tmd #neckpainrelief #neckpain
