Ever feel like your brain is working overtime just to keep you safe? ๐Ÿง  When we're growing up, our brain is hyper-focused on survival, especially when we're facing threats. That means a lot of our resources are directed toward managing those stresses, instead of developing things like emotional awareness or intellectual growth. But hereโ€™s the good news: healing is possible. By working with the brainโ€™s neurobiology, through tools like EMDR and other deep healing methods, we can actually normalize emotional and cognitive functions. Learning to set boundaries and distinguish between your needs and wants, amidst pressures and expectations, is a challenging but essential part of healing. Needs, such as water, food, shelter, and basic utilities, are fundamental biological drives. However, wants are frequently misconstrued as needs, particularly due to complex childhood experiences. When faced with a compulsion to act, ask yourself: "Is my survival at stake if I don't do this?" If the answer is no, then it's an opportunity to know what you really want and make choices aligned with your authentic self.
