I do these types of floating sprints from all different distances and transitions at the start. Some of them I start with a forward somersault, back flips, or even an open turn. It’s also fun to change up the distance from the wall the swimmers are floating, so they have to work on producing speed from essentially nothing and then - carrying that speed into the wall. It also forces swimmers to adjust their stroke counts to hit the wall well too! Want to perfect your starts and turns? Want to level up your freestyle? 🏊‍♂️ Mastering rotation is the key to unlocking speed, power, and efficiency. Here are 4 essentials to create a world-class freestyle rotation. 🔥 1 - Lateral Drive ✅ Drive Laterally for Power Freestyle isn’t just about pulling—it’s about driving forward. As one side pushes forward, the other drives back, maximizing propulsion and stroke efficiency. 2 - Timing & Hip Drive ⏳ Timing Fuels the Stroke To limit energy leaks, your high elbow catch and hip drive must sync up. A well-timed rotation generates more power and turns effort into forward speed. 3 - Shoulder Plane & Counterrotation 🔄 More Rotation = More Power For effective transverse torsion, your shoulders should rotate more than your hips. This stored energy creates recoil into the next stroke, driving seamless propulsion. 4 - The Right Sequence 🔄 Rotate in the Right Order Smooth transitions make or break your stroke. As you rotate into the next pull: 1️⃣ Head drops to neutral 2️⃣ Shoulders drive into the next stroke 3️⃣ Hips finish their smaller rotation Get this sequence right, and your freestyle will be faster, stronger, and more efficient. ⚡ #freestyle #swimmingtips #swimfaster #swimmingdrills #swimmerlife #swimmerproblems #swimtraining #swimcoach #swimmingtechnique #freestyletechnique #theafish1
