A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: We’ll state the obvious. That one bite of ricotta bake? >> It won’t fill you up as it did when you right in the midst of your puréed stage. Is it true that the urge to eat is driven by many different things that aren’t always “ghrelin-based”.
That’s a RESOUNDING yes. (BTW: ghrelin is an important hormone that helps regulate fullness and hunger) Eating can also be driven by 👇 - Emotions (food can be comforting in stressful situations) - Social events (like a birthday party) - Routine (for example, having desert after dinner was standard when you were a kid) And bariatric surgery doesn’t *magically* takes away ALL challenges when it comes down to your meals. It’s a tool. And it sure as heck helps to make different choices. ☝️ And yes - your portions are smaller. But over time, it’s very common that the same meal that kept you full for hours, months ago - now doesn’t. >> Wanna know exactly WHY your appetite and restriction change after bariatric surgery - and what to look out for? 🙋‍♀️ Check out our bariatric blog to get the answers you can’t find on Google 😘 • • • • • #bariatricmeals #wlsjourney #weightlosssurgery #vsgpostop #wlscommunityrny #wlscommunity #gastricsleeve #wlseats

A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: Physically, bariatric surgery is all about: ✔️a smaller stomach ✔️fewer hunger hormones ✔️……and even a reroute of the small intestine in mixed procedures like the gastric bypass But what about the mindset-shift once you went under the knife? 🤔 Besides food grief, emotional eating or body distortion you may be caught off guard by this particular challenge: “Being able to eat more as time passes by” 😅 Whewww...nobody can really prepare you how you feel when you can “suddenly” eat TWO eggs instead of ONE. There’s no blueprint when it comes down to feeling hella insecure when the whole “bariatric” world seems to eat way less than you. (are you really eating ^that much?). Not only is this way of thinking unhelpful, it can be dangerous too. Focusing TOO MUCH on a set portion size that you may think is right, can lead to disordered eating. Yeah. We get it. Life gets hectic. Making a simple meal prep the night before, saves soooooo much time in the morning though. Here’s what’s inside👇 - 1 boiled egg - with everything but the bagel seasoning (if you don’t have this type of seasoning just add anything you like!) Fresh fruit combined 2 oz / 60 g: 🫐 blueberries 🍓 strawberries 🍇 grapes 🥨 mini-pretzels for crunch AND more importantly to show you that when deemed appropriate - there is room for balance after bariatric surgery too. Moderation is key and healing your relationship with food might look like this 🤓❤️ 🧀 50g (nearly 2 oz) Gouda cheese cubes 💪 And this boils down to about 19g of protein per serving (always adjust the ingredients and portions to your own wants & needs - this is just an example) 🙋‍♀️ Was this helpful? A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: Are you tired of this series already? 😜 (if not: SAVE THIS RECIPE - it’s a game changer!) You know, bariatric surgery comes with its own set of struggles. And one of those - is that your typical “pastas” or in this case: lasagna sheets might not digest easy. Or perhaps, you don’t have enough space to fit those carbs in one meal so you’re forced to focus on protein (and veggies) only. Ta-daaaaa! 🥳 Then this recipe is a must-have in your bariatric recipe collection. Let’s show you how to make it. Ingredients: ◻️1/2 zucchini, sliced and grilled ◻️6 oz lean ground beef, seasoned and browned ◻️6 fl oz / 175 ml marinara sauce ◻️6 oz cottage cheese ◻️1 cup shredded mozzarella How to make this: 1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350F (180C). 2️⃣ Build your bowls adding grilled zucchini, cooked ground beef, cottage cheese, marinara sauce and mozzarella. 3️⃣ Place in oven, about 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. 4️⃣ Serve with a side salad or enjoy on its own. Extra tips to prep this meal 👇 ✅ Season the ground beef with paprika powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Or use Italian seasoning. ✅ Lightly brush your zucchini slices with olive oil before grilling them in the oven or pan (oven, set temperature at 400F, grill about 10 minutes or until slightly browned. A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: 🔥 Save the recipe for both low-appetite AND high-appetite days!
🍲 This hearty split-pea soup isn’t just high in protein, it’s the ultimate comfort food too. (without having to resort in slider foods which are way to easy to overeat on!). Here’s the full recipe for 4 servings (serving size is about 1 cup) Ingredients: * 1 cup dried green split peas * 4 cups low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth * 1 medium carrot, diced * 1 medium leek, cleaned and sliced (white and light green parts) * 1 celery stalk, diced * 1 smoked sausage (about 6-8 oz), sliced * 1 bay leaf * Salt and pepper to taste * Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish) Instructions: 1. Rinse the split peas thoroughly under cold water. 2. In a large pot, add the broth, split peas, carrot, leek, celery, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes or until the peas and vegetables are tender. 3. Stir in the sliced smoked sausage, and simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the sausage is heated through. 4. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the bay leaf before serving and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Nutritional Information (per 1-cup serving): * Calories: 250 kcal * Protein: 15g * Carbohydrates: 30g * Fat: 8g * Fiber: 8g
☝️ Keep in mind that the carbs in this soup are mainly from the split peas which are both high in complex carbs (so, high in fiber too!) and protein. 🙋‍♀️ How’s your appetite today? A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: Do you know what Albert Einstein once said? “You never fail until you stop trying” Let that sink in for a second *sips on proffee* Despite FEELING like failing when your weight loss stops, you’re actually not. You see, the fear of failure is all in your mind: 🔴 When you lose weight slower than expected 🔴 When you compare yourself to others seemingly doing everything RIGHT 🔴 When you feel stuck in a months-long stall The problem isn’t that weight stall. And the problem isn’t regain either. The real issue is the way you tackle your obstacles one by one. And it’s up to you to make up the balance 👇 1. Are you talking kindly to yourself? 2. Are you being self-compassionate (uhuh..it’s time to hush that inner voice telling you that you’re not doing enough!) 3. Are you focused on making small changes every single day? Do you know what Albert Einstein once said? If the answer is no to any of these, then it’s time to get back at it. A post by @bariatric.surgery.squad on TikTok caption: This may not come as as surprise. But portion control matters if you want to lose weight consistently after bariatric surgery. If right now you’re thinking: “But didn’t you guys just said YESTERDAY that it’s normal for portions to get larger?” Why, yes indeed, we did. But when you feel like your eating habits are way, way waaaaay outta control, then it might be a good idea to start doing this ONE simple thing. Use a smaller plate. Not only does your meal looks less like a small crater in a huge void of nothingness, but you’re less likely to put too much food on your plate and hence - *overeat*. Are you using a smaller plate - or do you feel like you have your portions under control regardless? Share away in the comments! PS. If you struggle with creating meals after bariatric surgery that are protein-focused but also include tons of FIBER for healthy poops, then our bariatric meal prep journal is right up your alley! • • • • #bariatricplate #wlsmeals #vsgfoodie #bariatricsurgeryjourney #wlsfam #vsgmotivation #wlseats #vsgeating #vsgeats #bariatricjourney #vsglife #wlslife #vsgjourney #vsg #wlssupport #vsgjourney #bariatricsleeve #wlssleeve #vsgsleeve #sleevesurgery #rouxeny #rnysupport #rnylifestyle #wlsliving #vsgsupport #bariatricsupport #vsgsupport #vsgfoods #bariatricdiet #gastricbypassjourney #gastricsleevejourney #bariatricjourney #weightlosssurgerysupport
